Racing Victoria is expected to today announce the findings of its inquiry into whether Melbourne Cup runner-up, Bauer, received electro-shockwave therapy before the race.
The investigation has been brought forward from its original start date of December 11.
English trainer Luca Cumani says Bauer needed physiotherapy for an injury on Thursday before the Cup.
The practice is banned in Australia in the week leading up to a race.
Cumani told Sydney radio station 2KY he was not aware the treatment was illegal in Australia.
"The vet didn't alert me that it was an issue, the vet was appointed by Racing Victoria to look after our horses and I thought everything was fine," he said.
Racing Victoria was initially hesitant to reveal the focus of its inquiry, but it has now confirmed it is investigating whether shockwave therapy was used.
Racing Victoria could withhold the $800,000 winnings if if finds the horse's connections have breached the rules.
Bauer is owned by a syndicate which includes former Test cricketer Simon O'Donnell.
"It sullies what was an unbelievable experience," O'Donnell said.
"But in the fullness of time this will come to a conclusion and at that stage we'll know exactly where we stand."
