Money woes delay Cherbourg nursing home fix

The Cherbourg Aboriginal Council says money is the biggest obstacle to removing sanctions imposed on its nursing home.

The federal Department of Ageing sanctioned the 20-bed Ny-Ku Byun home in June for failing to fix problems that were identified.

The council was hoping to have the problems fixed by the end of this month, but that has been delayed until next year.

Chief executive officer Warren Collins says the home needs the right fire accreditation standards and that can be expensive.

"We're in constant contact with the Federal Government. We're negotiating with them on the best way to ensure that we can provide a service here and to ensure that we can get the building to where it needs to be," he said.
