Govt urged to release hospital cancer report

Posted December 4, 2008 11:00:00

The Western Australian Opposition is calling on the State Government to release the findings of an investigation into health concerns among staff at Busselton Hospital.

The Department of Health is investigating the rate of cancer among hospital workers after being notified of 15 separate cases.

The department initially expressed doubts the cancers were connected with working at the south-west hospital, but is now conducting a more detailed investigation.

South-west Labor MP Adele Farina says the full report needs to be made public once it is completed.

"The conclusions in themselves won't tell the whole story," she said.

"For the staff in the hospital to be certain that a thorough investigation has been undertaken and that nothing has been hidden from them, it really is important that the Government release the full report."
