Delayed arrival for giant live export ship

Posted December 4, 2008 13:22:00

The world's largest live export ship was due to arrive in Townsville today, but the docking has been postponed until Sunday to take pressure of north Queensland graziers who have been affected by the recent wet weather.

The MV Becrux will transport more than 17,000 cattle head from across Queensland to Indonesia.

The regional manager of Wellard's Rural Exports, Tim O 'Donnell, says they will be loading the cattle 24 hours around-the-clock.

"Due to the weather over the last few days, particularly out the west, we've put the boat back by a couple of days to take the pressure off and help some people get their cattle across, there's just been roads cut and various things and we're waiting for them to open to get all our cattle in," he said.
