Cancer council welcomes new ad campaign

Posted December 4, 2008 14:00:00

The Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) has praised a new $2 million TV advertising campaign warning about the dangers of sun tanning.

The graphic TV ads began last night and are funded by the State Government.

CCQ spokeswoman Lucy Daniels says statistics show about 10 per cent of skin cancers diagnosed result in death.

"The Cancer Council Queensland certainly welcomes the State Government new anti-tanning campaign, which is highlighting dangers unsafe sun exposure," she said.

"Skin cancer rates in Queensland are the highest in the world, so certainly the campaign is an important warning about the dangers of unsafe sun exposure and an important public health message."
