Half the field will have to complete their first rounds tomorrow after storms ended play early on the opening day at the Australian PGA at Coolum in Queensland.

New Zealand's Tim Wilkinson is the clubhouse leader after shooting a 6-under par 66.

Australian Peter Wilson is also at 6-under after 14 holes.

Geoff Ogilvy and New Zealand's Richard Lee were tied for third at 5-under.

Ogilvy looked certain to at least grab a share of the lead after making an eagle and three birdies in his first 10 holes, but parred the last eight in a row to settle for a 67.

"I started very well, I was 3-under after three which is always a nice way to start," Ogilvy said.

"I played really solid on the front nine, not so solid on the back nine, but it was getting pretty windy in the last eight or nine holes.

"It (his front nine) could've been a pretty special nine holes and then I kind of unravelled a little bit on the back nine but as I said it got a bit tricky and blustery."

Peter Senior had played 10 holes and was also on 5-under.

Brett Rumford and John Senden had 69s while defending champion Peter Lonard and Michael Sim managed 70s.

Robert Allenby, trying to win for his dying mother, was 1-under through seven holes.

American John Daly finished with a 71, overcoming a poor start in which he double-bogeyed the par-three 11th hole after finding the water.
