The Cronulla Sharks board has deferred a decision on the future of player Greg Bird over the alleged assault on his girlfriend Katie Milligan earlier this year.

Bird, his manager and legal council met with the club's board on Thursday night to discuss his reply to the Sharks' request for an explanation.

The club has released a statement saying it only received his 10-page reply on the night and will continue its deliberations.

Prosecutors have charged Bird with reckless wounding, public mischief and making false accusations.

Bird's manager, Gavin Orr, says he is satisfied the rugby league star was given a fair hearing.

Orr says they will now wait for the board to make its decision.

"We've come here tonight (Thursday) and we've met with the board," he said.

"We think we've had a fair hearing and now we're going to wait for the results of that hearing sometime tomorrow (Friday) and that's all we have to say."
