Moe club backs continued jumps racing

Posted December 5, 2008 07:37:00

The Moe Racing Club has welcomed a decision to allow jumps racing to continue in Victoria.

The decision came after several horse deaths prompted a review of the sport.

The jumps season will go ahead next year, but hurdles will be modified and restrictions will be placed on hard turf.

The chief executive officer of the Moe Racing Club, David McKinnon, says jumps racing is an important part of the club's program.

"We have jumps races on four days of our program during the year, culminating in the super jumps day in July when we have the Gippsland grand national hurdle, so we believe it's a good sport, there's obviously some safety concerns that need to be addressed and it'll be done by the industry," he said.
