The Gloucester Mayor will meet the Mineral Resources Minister tomorrow, urging the New South Wales Government not to renew the exploration licences of a local coal mine.
Gloucester Resources currently holds exploration licences to the north and west of the Stratford coal mine and has recently purchased more land in the shire.
Mayor Julie Lyford says the council unanimously voted in December to request an urgent meeting with the Minister.
"We would like the exploration licences of Gloucester Resources not to be renewed when they come up for expiry at the end of this financial year," she said.
"We actually wrote to the Minister over 12 months ago because of the concerns of the community regarding the overwhelming exploration licence and mining issues that we've got here now in the Gloucester Shire."
