Twenty-seven people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a bus crash north of Melbourne.

The crash happened near Beveridge on the Hume Freeway when the bus left the road and rolled once, landing on its wheels.

There were five children on board at the time, but police say almost all of the passengers were well enough to walk.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
