The first Queensland policeman to face trial over an Aboriginal death in custody has been found not guilty. It took a jury less than four hours to return its verdict, in a case that has exposed racial fault lines in north Queensland. Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley faced charges of manslaughter and assault in relation to the death of Palm Island man Mulrunji Doomadgee, two and a half years ago. It has been a controversial case, with Indigenous leaders complaining about the white justice system, and Queensland Police accusing the Beattie Government of political interference.
