China's trade surplus fell 12 per cent in the first half of this year, although it still came in at a very healthy $103 billion. The slowing US economy and a rise in the value of the Yuan dampened export demand, while May's devastating earthquake caused a shift in economic focus as resources were poured into the relief effort.
