First Cut: Obama slams Palin's terrorism 'smear'

US Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has hit back at the Republicans for accusing him of consorting with terrorists. Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was referring to William Ayers, who was a member of the radical 1960s group the Weathermen, which placed bombs at the Pentagon and the Capitol to protest against the Vietnam War. Mr Ayers, who is now a university professor, served on a community board with Senator Obama in the late 1990s.
