Across rural southern Australia a towering revolution is taking place, the rise of wind farms. With the Rudd Government close to legislating its promised mandatory renewable energy target, there are predictions of a virtual boom in renewable energy investment. It is potentially an alternative income stream for cash-strapped farmers and a boost to some struggling rural communities. However, not everyone is welcoming these winds of change.
