The broadcast of the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games on the 15th of September will be the culmination of nearly five years of planning and effort from many dedicated ABC personnel.

The ABC is proud to be continuing a tradition of broadcasting the Olympics to Australian listeners, a tradition that has been unbroken since 1936. And as the Sydney Olympic Games are the largest ever staged, the ABC will be providing the biggest, most comprehensive and most intricate, continuous radio-only broadcast ever undertaken in Australia.

The ABC Local Radio network, which can be heard by over 99% of the Australian population, will broadcast over 14 hours of direct daily coverage. Hosts Karen Tighe, Lynne Haultain and David Morrow lead a team of over 90 broadcasters, journalists and technical staff that will bring listeners live commentary and reports from every major Games event.

In addition to the Games action, there will be regular updates of news and local information, including weather details. Major news bulletins and current affairs programs will be broadcasting throughout the Games period.
