Overview Format Contenders The Team The Basics Venue Media
Sailing, or yachting as it has been referred to in previous Games programs, has often been the poor cousin of the Olympic family.
Atlanta was a case in point. While most of the athletes were housed and competed at the Olympic Stadium in the city, the yachties were holed up in Savannah, hundreds of kilometres away.
Sydney made a nice change in 2000, with events held on the harbour in the heart of the city.
But in Beijing, the sailors will again be going solo, camped almost 1,000km south-east of the main Games venue.
Sailing will take place at the Qingdao International Marina. The city, home to about 8 million people, is a port on the Yellow sea and is the richest city in Shandong province.
