Lynne Malcolm, Executive Producer ABC Radio National's Science Unit
Lynne Malcolm is the Executive Producer of ABC Radio National's Science Unit and regularly presents and produces radio programs and series on the Science Unit’s programs.
She is managing editor of a number of science-related radio programs, including the The Science Show, the Health Report, All in the Mind, In Conversation and Ockham’s Razor.
Lynne has worked in radio production in the ABC since 1984.
With a degree in Psychology & Anthropology from Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma in Communications at the University of Technology she began at ABC Radio in 1984.
She joined the Science Unit in 1989, as producer on the Science Show with Robyn Williams and later, was a producer-reporter on the environmental programs Green and Practical and Earthbeat.
During 1997 she worked at the BBC Radio Science Unit in London as part of an exchange program sponsored by the British Council. Lynne has produced and presented a range of science features and series and has occasionally presented the weekly Radio National programs All in the Mind and the Health Report.
She also produced & presented several major radio series including A World Without Waste in 2005 and Balancing Nature in 2008. These two series were ABC-BBC which were broadcast across Australia, New Zealand and further afield via the BBC World Service.
She was executive producer on the Science Show series Life changing Science and 2024 Dreaming.
She has travelled extensively throughout Australia, and Asia including Nepal, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China and Japan to produce science and environment features.
Lynne has received a number of awards for her work in radio including the Michael Daley Award for Journalism in Science, finalist status in the Eureka Awards and Bronze and Gold Medals in the New York Radio Festivals International Awards. In 2006 she won the radio award from the NSW Mental Health Services for a two-part series on schizophrenia.
Lynne is passionate about making radio about science - particularly as a way of giving the audience access to a diverse range of ideas and cultures through engaging 'on the ground' voices and sounds.
