Coastal Waters Wind Warning for lower eastern, southern and northern Tasmanian coastal waters. Issued at 4:10 pm EDT on Thursday 8 January 2009
Synoptic Situation A low to the southeast of Tasmania is moving away while a high over the Bight extends a ridge towards the state.
Strong Wind Warning For the Southeast Coast, lower East Coast. Wineglass Bay to South East Cape South to southwest winds 15 to 25 knots reaching 30 knots at times over open waters. Winds easing to 10 to 20 knots later in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 metres. West to southwest swell 3 to 4 metres, lower inshore.
Strong Wind Warning for northern coastal waters, including Banks Strait and Franklin Sound, Sandy Cape to St Helens Point West to southwest winds 15 to 25 knots, reaching 30 knots at times in open waters, slowly easing later in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 metres in open waters. West to southwest swell in the northwest to 3.5 metres. A westerly swell to 1.5 metres through Bass Strait tending confused east of Flinders Island.
The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm EST
Please be aware Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.
