The Tapa cloth is from Fiji, and was sent in by Fiona, who lives in W.A. It is 2.4 meteres long, and made from a single piece of bark, which is repeatedly tapped with mallets (hence the name) to flatten and soften the fibres. > more

No.1: shown closed - smaller item is silver with garnet in end; larger item does not appear to be true silver & has agate in end No.2: shown open - 'blades' slide out; extremely sharp point but blunt edges; smaller is fixed, but larger would insert much like inserting modern craft blade, but in this case is missing No. 3: Smaller item showing Hallmarks. No idea how old they are, but been in the family at least since the 1890's.
